Future Plans

IITM has widened its objectives and scope of research activities, from time to time, to meet the critical challenges and the national needs for providing information relating to various aspects of atmosphere and the increasing concern among the Government and general public about a variety of environmental issues. To achieve its mission objectives, IITM has the following future plans:

To build a firm foundation in basic research on all aspects of tropical atmosphere-land-ocean system contributing to the improvement of weather and climate forecasts.
To have reliable extended range prediction of the monsoon through development of a system for long range prediction of seasonal mean monsoon and extended range prediction of active/break spells.
To develop major infrastructure required to improve the understanding of basic physics of tropical climate system through observations.
To produce a good number of trained manpower to work on monsoon prediction and address other vital problems in Meteorology.
