Former, Director, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology
On behalf of the Indian Meteorological Society, Bangalore Chapter, a major National Symposium called "TROPMET-97: Monsoon, Climate and Agriculture" was successfully organized at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore during February 10-14, 1997. The symposium was attended by about 200 meteorologists, oceanographers and agricultural scientists from all over the country. Bringing together meteorologists and agricultural scientists, the symposium focused on strategies to improve long range prediction of monsoon and increase food grain production in rain fed areas and to decrease its variability from year to year despite variability of monsoon/climate.
Coordinated a course on "Physics of the Atmosphere and Ocean" during 1-12 December, 2003 at CAOS sponsored by the Indian Academy of Sciences. The course was designed for teachers of colleges and universities, where complexities of atmospheric and oceanic phenomena were exposed and modern methods of investigating and understanding them were introduced. I am also coordinating similar course on "Physics of the Atmosphere" during 14-25 November, 2005 at the CAOS sponsored by the Indian Academy of Sciences.
