The Workshop has been divided into 7 technical sessions. The Inaugural ceremony was chaired by Dr. E. Desa., Director, NIO, Goa. Shri. LVG Rao, of NIO introduced the purpose of the Workshop. On this occasion, Dr. PC Pandey, Director, NCAOR, Goa expressed his happiness to associate with this experiment and hope to extend all possible support from the DOD for such experiments. Dr. P. Sanjeeva Rao, representative of DST thanked the Director, NIO for readily agreeing to host this workshop to promote the interaction between Oceanographers and Meteorologists. He also conveyed his gratitude to the local organising committee, in particular to Dr. V. Ramesh Babu and Dr. VSN Murty for providing necessary arrangements. Dr. Desa in his presidential address explained various activities undertaken by the Physical and Chemical Oceanography groups at NIO and called for more interaction and participation in the national endeavours. Prof. DR Sikka, Chairman, PAMC on MONTCLIM & ICRP delivered the lead talk on the `Scientific issues of monsoon variability’. The local organiser of the workshop, Dr. V. Ramesh Babu proposed the vote of thanks.


Atmospheric dynamics, Air-sea interaction and Ocean processes are the major themes discussed during the technical sessions. Prof. DR Sikka, Prof. Sulochana Gadgil, Dr. S.M. Kulshrestha, Prof. U.C. Mohanty, Dr. S.R. Shetye, and Dr. R.R. Rao chaired the technical sessions. During the workshop 3 invited talks and 31 scientific papers were presented and discussed.
