Significant Contributions for
IITM bagged 1st prize under Swachhata Pakhwada Award - 2018, among MoES Institutes. This event was Organised by Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India. This award was received by the Hon. Secretary, MoES, Govt. of India at Delhi.
IITM won first prize in the theme-based Wall painting/beautification competition organised by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) under the Swachha Servekshan Abhiyan 2019. Swachh Awards and Wall Painting Competition Awards Ceremony was organized on 7th March 2019 at Savitribai Phule Smark, Pune.

Providing research support to M.Sc., M.Tech. students and helping Ph.D research fellows in numerical modeling of the atmospheric general circulation. Actively involved in training of numerical, spectral techniques used in AGCMs and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics to Ph.D. students and staff.
Worked as a lecturer of Mathematics at College of Engineering., Faizpur, Maharashtra during (January-June) 1987.

Interactions with students:

Contributions to the Science popularization activites:

Participated and organized Career oriented Science popularization programmes on 13 April 2007 at Swami Vivekanand Pratishthan, Jalgaon (M.S.) and 14 April 2007 at Scholar Den Academic Institute, Khandwa (M.P.) for motivating young generation towards research field. The scientific interactions made in the regional languages (Hindi and Marathi) were very active and inquisitive, and received good media coverage.
Working for ‘Human Thermal comforts using forced cross ventilation’. This research work on ‘Eco-friendly ventilation’ is receiving overwhelming response, through it’s practical implemention, from various sectors of the society and Media.
Co-ordinated for preparation of Hindi and Marathi versions of posters illustrating division’s scientific activities.
Participated in various Science popularization programmes at Pune.
On the National Science Day, Wednesday, 28 February 2007, All India Radio broadcasted an interview with Prof. B.N. Goswami, Director, IITM :The ‘hide and seek’ game of the Indian summer monsoon: Active and Break spells. The interviewer was Dr. Milind Mujumdar, Scientist from IITM, the same was reported by media.

Research Activities :

a) Development of real time initial and boundary conditions for spectral Atmospheric General Circulation Models (AGCMs – T30L18, T62L18, T80L18)

a dynamically consistent state of the atmosphere in the spectral domain is obtained from observed atmospheric parameters. The real time global grid point distribution of these atmospheric paramters are available from operational numerical weather prediction centers like National Center for Environmental Prediction – National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCEP-NCAR), and European Center for Medium range Weather Forecast (ECMWF). These dynamically consistent datasets, which are also compatible with the spectral models, provide a good starting point to initiate the real time model integration.
The real time slowly varying global Sea Surface Temperature (SST) is specified as surface boundary condition for the simulation of AGCM. The observed weekly and monthly Optimum Interpolation (OI) SST dataset from (NCEP-NCAR) is used for generating smoothly varying global SST field compatible with the spectral model. b) Development of (Nationl Center for Medium Range Forecast) NCMRWF T80L18 weather model as a Climate Model. by incorporating boundary layer treatments, inclusion of the weekly and monthly SSTs as a boundary conditions, introduction of the mass conservation, etc. A post-processor for converting spectral output into grid point dynamical and thermodynamical diagnostics e.g. psichi2uv, vertical velocity, surface parameters etc.

c) Simulation studies in unraveling the climate dynamics

Influence of remote and regional boundary conditions – Dynamical linkage between northwest Pacific and Indian monsoon; Influence of Equatorial Indian Ocean on seasonal and intraseasonal Monsoon variability; The impact of solar variability; Internal and external variabilities of monsoon induced by Initial and boundary conditions; Dynamical seasonal prediction of monsoon; Dynamical mechanisms of Premonsoon signals; Diagnosis of the duel character of tropical and extra-tropical systems.
