Swachhata Pakwada (1-15 July 2019) at IITM

This Institute (IITM, Pune) is observing the Swachhata Pakwada as per the directions from MoES and Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Govt. of India. 

The first day event (1st July, 2019), IITM, Pune in collaboration with Nisarg, NGO (who are working for plastic free environment) has interacted with Palakhis Warkari on their way from Pune to Pandharpur and distributed cloth bags (400 Nos.) on account of Swachhta Pakwada. The Palakhis tradition is more than 700 to 800 years old and it is a one of the major festival celebrated in Maharashtra, with a participation of around four lakhs people across the state.

The Second day (2nd July 2019):

As per the directions from Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MDWS), Govt. of India and MoES, New Delhi, a cleanliness drive has started by this Institute (IITM) and Swachhata Pakhwada pledge has been taken on 2nd July, 2019at 1100 hrs. by all the IITM staff in presence of Director, IITM. Director, IITM has encouraged to all the staff members to adhere the guidelines regarding the Swachhata Pakhwada received from MDWS and MoES and instructed to take active participation in this national event to make it as a grand success as desired by Govt. of India.

The third day (3rd July 2019): 

As per the directions from Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MDWS), Govt. of India and MoES, New Delhi, Director, IITM has initiated the cleanliness drive in the Office premises as well as outside area of the office premises on 3rd July, 2019 at 1100 hrs. and motivated the officials of the Institute (IITM) about cleanliness drive. All the office staff joined enthusiastically in the cleanliness drive and contributed towards cleaning of respective section / division and outside area of the office premises.  

The fourth day (4rd July 2019): 

A cleanliness drive was arranged at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ganeshkhind, Pune on account of Swachhata Pakhwada on 4th July, 2019. Office staff including JRF / SRF / M.Tech students also attended the event and contributed their valuable labour hours for the cleaning of Kendriya Vidyalaya (KVS) campus.

Swachhata Pakhwada Day 5 : 
A lecture on the topic "Swachhata Abhiyan - Where to do & What we need to understand" by Dr Rahul Mungikar was organised. All the employees of IITM attended the lecture with maximum participation. Dr. Rahul Mungikar is Assistant Director at Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), Conservation biologist and a Member (Expert), High Level Monitoring Committee Mahabaleshwar-Panchgani ESZ.

Swachhata Pakhwada Day 6 :
IITM employees voluntarily participated in the cleanliness drive and cleaned the 200 mtrs stretch of Ram river. All the volunteers, cleaned the rubble and plastic near the Chakra Teerth,the natural stream supplying water to the river. Almost one tempo of silt , three beams of grass and three bags of garbage was collected. The drive was led by the Director Prof. Ravi Nanjundiah and Dr Gufran Beig. Hon’ble Mayor, Pune City Smt Mukta Tilak and Hon’ble MLA Prof Medha Kulkarni were also present at the event. Smt Tilak asked people not to throw garbage in rivers, hills or any open places and help complete PM Modi’s dream of Swachh Bharat.

After the cleanliness drive the tree plantation at IITM was carried out by Hon’ble Secretary, MoES, Dr Rajeevan.

Swachchata Pakhwada Day 7 : 
On 8th July, 2019, on account of Swachhata Pakhwada, social activity for collection of old household and unused materials i.e. clothes, kids cycles, toys, shoes ets from IITM Colony and IITM Staff was arranged and boxes for collection of things were kept at different venues of the Office. IITM staff generously donated clothes and other useful things. The collected things will be distributed to the needy people of the society.

Swachchata Pakhwada Day 8 : 
On 9th July, 2019, on account of Swachhata Pakhwada, IITM, Pune in collaboration with SAFAR Project, School Flag Awareness Program on Air Quality at HHCP High School & Junior College, Huzurpaga, Laxmi Road, Pune was carried out.
All the dignitaries including Hon’ble Smt Mukta Tilak and the Guest of Honour Dr Rajendra Shende (Former Director, UNEP, Paris, France) delivered speeches on the topics like Air-Quality Index and avoiding of plastic in uses and its lethal effects and precautions to be taken by the common man.

Swachhata Pakhwada Day 9 : 
On 10th July, 2019, on account of Swachhata Pakhwada, an activity of tree plantation was organized in the Institute's premises. IITM staff including senior scientists actively participated and planted trees.

Swachchta Pakhwada Day 10:
On 11th July, 2019, on account of Swachhata Pakhwada, an activity of segregation of old records, enlisting safe keeping of the same and digitization of records in the Institute was carried out. In the account section,maximum entries like PFMS, IT TDS, Cheques etc are digitaised and have been put up on website, thus making an effort towards a paperless office.

Swachchta Pakhwada Day 11: 
On 12 th July 2019 a mass anti polythene drive was carried out in the Institute and IITM colony premises. IITM staff and scientists came forward and participated in the drive by removing hazardous polythene material out of the campus.
