SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS
- Constructed the longest available homogeneous time series of rainfall and temperature from observed meteorological data and brought out their spatio-temporal variability.
- Evidence presented for showing the impact of El Nino on monsoon variability.
- Identified several global/regional predictors and developed empirical techniques for seasonal forecasting of all India summer monsoon rainfall.
- Developed dendroclimatology laboratory for the study of climate fluctuations through tree ring width analysis using samples collected from different forest sites of India.
- Established the dendroclimatic potential of several species in the Indian forests and reconstructed the climatic conditions overt western Himalaya during pre-instrumental period.
- Evidence shown to indicate the relationship of the double sunspot cycle with occurrence of major flood years over India.
- Analyzed long series rainfall data on different time scales over various river basins in India and computed hydrometeorological elements for the use of river valley projects, water management authorities, and irrigation and flood control agencies.
- Published an Atlas containing generalized Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP) Charts for different parts of India.
- Carried out Depth (DAD) analysis of severe storms occurred over different river catchments in India during the past 100 years and published an Atlas of the Rainstorms.
