LONG-TERM CLIMATE VARIABILITY
Under this project, decadal to century scale climate variability studies are undertaken.
DENDROCLIMATOLOGY
Dendroclimatology laboratory has been established to carry out tree-ring width analysis. Information on past climate is vital to understand climate change and its forcings, which can be used to obtain the valuable information for the period where no meteorological information exist, by comparing meteorological data with the widths. Aim of these studies are to construct the longest homogeneous time series for the region for different climatic elements to understand interannual, decadal or longer time span variability. It also helps to project future climatic scenarios.
MODEL DIAGNOSTICS
Model provides a powerful facility to study the climate and climatic change. Variety of models are available currently. It is necessary to examine each model in detailed manner. Division has taken up this challenge to assess numerical simulations of global climatic change, various forcings, processes and causal mechanisms behind it and future scenarios.
