Future projection of Indian summer monsoon variability under climate change scenario: An assessment from CMIP5 climate models

Study demonstrates substantial future changes in the Indian summer monsoon (ISM) variability by the end of 21st century indicating strong sensitivity of ISM to global warming and points out the growing climate-related vulnerability over Indian subcontinent. Future projections show amplification of heavy rainfall events, along with more intense & regionally extended active/break episodes in future climate. Both severity and frequency of extreme monsoons might also increase. Read More... (Sharmila S., Joseph S., Sahai A.K., Abhilash S., Chattopadhyay R., Global and Planetary Change, Jan 2015)

Critical pollutant emissions from the Indian telecom network

For first time, study reports the estimation of anthropogenic emission from world's 2nd largest Telecom. Discusses and recommends possible mitigation strategy to control Telecom related pollution by 2020. Read more... (Sahu S.K., Schultz M.G., Beig G. , Atmospheric Environment, Feb 2015)

Changes in western disturbances over the Western Himalayas in a warming environment

Study focuses on understanding the observed changes in Western Disturbance (WD) activity and the associated impacts on winter precipitation over the Western Himalayas (WH) in recent decades. Reveals pronounced warming trends over the Tibetan Plateau in recent decades, arising due to elevation dependency of the climatic warming signal, have favoured enhancement of meridional temperature gradients at middle and upper-tropospheric levels over sub-tropics & mid-latitudes.
