"To Improve Prediction Skill of Monsoon Weather and Climate"
Earth System Science Organization, Ministry of Earth Science
Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, India

About US

Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India has launched 'Monsoon Mission' (MM) with a vision to develop a state-of-the-art dynamical prediction system for monsoon rainfall on different time scales. MoES has bestowed the responsibility of execution and coordination of this mission to the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune.

Welcome to Monsoon Mission

The Major Objectives of Monsoon Mission are :

  • To build a working partnership between the academic and R & D Organizations both national and international, and the MoES to improve the operational monsoon forecast skill over the country and develop relevant climate applications for agriculture, hydrology and power sectors.
  • To develop and improve a state-of-the art dynamical modelling frame work for improving prediction skill of
    • Seasonal and extended range predictions
    • Short and medium range(up to two weeks) prediction
