INDO-US Workshop on Downscaling at IITM
As part of the INDO-US Partnership for Climate Resilience, the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) , Pune , U.S. Department of State, and others from the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information are working in a series of workshops and collaborations to advance capacity for climate adaptation planning in India. The first in a series of workshops is focused on techniques for downscaling climate information and opportunities for sharing available downscaled information to local planners in India. This “Workshop on Development and Applications of Downscaling Climate Projections” scheduled on March 7-9, 2017 was organized by Center for Climate Change Research, at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, India.
The workshop focused on sharing expertise in climate modeling and downscaling between Indian and US experts; present downscaled international climate model data for the Indian sub-continent, including NASA Earth Exchange Global Daily Downscaled Projections (NEX-GDDP) and IITM Coordinated Regional Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX) program for South Asia ; engage and share experience in the applications of downscaled climate information to inform decision making, including discussions on the State Action Plan Development and identify collaborative research opportunities for developing additional high-resolution climate datasets for the Indian Sub-continent and approaches for their use in climate adaptation planning.
The participation in the workshop was “by invitation” only. For details contact Dr Ashwini Kulkarni at the address firstname.lastname@example.org / email@example.comVisitors
Prof. Marianne T. Lund and Dr. Bjørn H. Samset, Research Directors, CICERO Center for International Climate and Environmental Research - Oslo, NORWAY, are on visit to IITM. They will deliver a seminar on “Precipitation and response model inter-comparision Project (PDRMIR)-Climate Research at CICERO on 7th March 2017 at IITM.
Dr. Alexandru Rap, School of Earth and Environment, University of Leeds, UK is on visit to IITM. He delivered a talk on “Aerosol and ozone radiative effects"on 24th March 2017 at IITM.
Announcement of a Short Course on Dynamic Data Assimilation at IITM
Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology will be conducting "A Short Course on Dynamic Data Assimilation: Theory and Applications" during 26 June - 7 July 2017.
This course will provide a classification of forecast errors and develop methods for correcting forecast errors using Dynamic Data Assimilation - which is a process for systematic fusion/merging of data into the models. The aim of this course is to provide a broad background on the basic principles and mathematical tools needed to assimilate data into models of various kinds and analyze the forecast generated from the assimilated models. Interested participants may send their resumes along with recommendation letter from their HOD or head of the institute to Dr. C. Gnanaseelan (firstname.lastname@example.org), Scientist-F, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Dr. Homi Bhabha Road, Pune-411008 by 15 April 2017.
