Research Highlight

Role of Enhanced Synoptic Activity and its Interaction with Intra-seasonal oscillations on the lower extended range prediction skill during 2015 monsoon season

This study assesses the general skill of extended range prediction based on IITM NCEP-CFSv2 forecast runs on real-time during 2015 monsoon season and try to unravel the role of enhanced synoptic disturbances and its link to lower ERP skill. It is observed that the 2015 monsoon season was dominated by synoptic scale disturbances and reduction in skill is closely linked to the models inability to capture the short period synoptic activity at higher leads.
