Research Highlight

Investigated Super Cyclone Gonu (1–7 June 2007), the first Category-5 storm in the Arabian Sea, demonstrating how anomalously warm SSTs, weakened Tropical Easterly Jet, enhanced upper-level divergence, strong equatorial moisture inflow, and favorable vorticity structures facilitated rapid early-season intensification. The study highlights the increasing risk of extreme cyclones during climatologically unfavorable periods due to ocean warming and changing jet dynamics.
