Research Highlight

Sketch of rainfall mechanism over the rain shadow region

  • Rainfall mechanism over the rain-shadow region of north peninsular India during the summer monsoon season has been investigated using dynamic, thermodynamic, cloud microphysics and cloud dynamic (CMCD) forcings.
  • Daily rainfall, wind, divergence, wind shear, vertical velocity profile and thermodynamic parameters have been used. Aircraft data also has been used to study CMCD parameters.
  • The analysis of large scale dynamical, thermodynamical, and CMCD parameters leads to understanding of the rainfall mechanism over the rain-shadow region.
